Miami Shores, Fla. (Mar. 14, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Caldwell Cougars, 9-6, Wednesday afternoon in the Barry Invitational at Feinbloom Field. The Lions improved to 6-9 with the win. Senior

Jake McCarthy drove in three runs and collected two hits apiece, and sophomore
James Messina tallied three hits.
Caldwell (0-7) scored two runs in the top of the first to jump ahead 2-0.
The Lions responded in the bottom half of the first. Leerdam hit a two-RBI single through the left side to tie the game, 2-2, and McCarthy hit an RBI single through the right side to make it a 3-2 game.
Molloy added to its lead in the second inning. Senior
Angelo Navetta drilled a two-RBI double down the right field line to increase the lead to 5-2. Leerdam drove in Navetta to make it a four-run game, 6-2.
The Cougars plated four runs in the fourth to knot the contest at six.
McCarthy hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score freshman
Matt Overton to put the maroon and white up 7-6 in the fifth.
Messina scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, and McCarthy added an RBI single in the seventh to secure the Lions' 9-6 victory.
Junior
James Murphy threw three innings for his first win of the season.
Overton struck out a batter in the ninth and registered his first career save.
Molloy returns home to host Le Moyne Saturday, Mar. 17. First pitch at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex is scheduled for noon.
