Miami Shores, Fla. (Mar. 13, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Adelphi Panthers, 9-7, Tuesday afternoon in the Barry Invitational at Feinbloom Field. The Lions moved to 5-9 with the loss. Sophomore
James Messina led the team with two hits.
Adelphi (6-3-1) scored one run in the top of the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Molloy responded in the bottom of the second. Messina hit an RBI single through the right side to cut the lead to 2-1. Senior
Jack McCarty reached on an error, which allowed sophomore
Sean Hogan and junior
Michael Wall to score and put the maroon and white up 3-2. McCarty capped the rally by stealing home on a double steal.
The Panthers plated two runs in the third to knot the score at four.
The Lions loaded the bases in the fourth, and sophomore
Jake Saltzman, seniors
Angelo Navetta, and
Elijah Leerdam walked on four pitches to increase Molloy's advantage to 7-4.
Adelphi used a five-run seventh inning to go ahead 9-7.
The maroon and white concludes the Barry Invitational tomorrow, Mar. 14 when it plays Caldwell. First pitch with the Cougars is slated for 11:00 a.m.
