Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2018) – The men's basketball team defeated Mercy College, 83-61, in the regular season finale to earn a spot in the East Coast Conference Tournament. The Lions improved to 8-20 on the season and 7-11 in league play.
Junior

Mike Torre and sophomore
Josh Dennis just missed double-doubles, pulling down nine boards each while scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore
Nick Corbett totaled 12 points for the maroon and white.
A three-pointer from Corbett put Molloy in front in the opening minutes. The Mavericks (10-19, 5-13 ECC) responded with a dunk to come within one, but that was as close as the visitors would get on the afternoon.
With four minutes left in the opening half, a triple from freshman
Steven Torre gave the Lions a double digit lead, 31-19. Mercy would come within 10, 33-23, at the half.
The maroon and white opened the second frame on a 15-10 run to go ahead, 48-33. Midway through the second half, a jumper from the elder Torre put Molloy in front by 20, 62-42. Following a 21-15 run, the Lions took its largest lead of the game, 83-56. The game would end on a layup from Mercy to set the score at 83-61.
Molloy will await the conclusion of tomorrow's ECC contests to learn its seeding. The Lions will claim either the fifth or sixth seed in the Tournament, depending on the outcome of tomorrow's contest between LIU Post and Roberts Wesleyan College. If the Pioneers are victorious, Molloy will enter the playoffs as the fifth seed while a Redhawks win will make Molloy the sixth seed.
