Myrtle Beach, S.C. (Feb. 24, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Franklin Pierce Ravens, 6-5, Saturday afternoon at the Northeast Challenge. The Lions moved to 2-4 with the loss. Freshman
Matt Overton tallied two RBIs, and senior
Angelo Navetta collected three hits and drove in a run for the maroon and white.
Franklin Pierce opened the scoring in the top of the second.
The Lions evened the score, 1-1, on an RBI triple from Navetta in the bottom of the third.
The Ravens jumped ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth, but Molloy answered, in the bottom half of the frame, with a solo home run from sophomore
Jake Saltzman.
Franklin Pierce plated three runs in the fifth to go ahead 5-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Overton grounded out to score Navetta.
In the seventh, Overton drilled an RBI doubled to right field to make it a 5-4 game.
The Ravens scored one run in the eighth, and the maroon and white answered with an RBI from senior
Jack McCarty, which cut the lead to 6-5.
Graduate student
C.J. Schildt pitched seven innings, gave up five runs on 10 hits, and struck out eight.
Molloy returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 25 when it takes on Dominican. First pitch with the Charges is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
