Myrtle Beach, S.C. (Feb. 25, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Dominican Chargers, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Northeast Challenge. The Lions improved to 3-4 with the victory.
The maroon and white opened the scoring in the top half of the first. Freshman
Jake McCarthy grounded out to second, which scored senior
Jack McCarty.
Molloy added a run in the fourth. Sophomore
Jake Saltzman grounded into a fielder's choice, which brought home McCarthy and made it 2-0.
Saltzman, who drove in a game-high two runs, hit an RBI double to right center in the eighth to increase the Lions' lead to 3-0.
Dominican (0-4) plated two runs in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 3-2.
Senior
Shawn Klotsche pitched the eighth and ninth innings to record his second save of the season.
Senior
Kevin Hiss threw seven innings, gave up one run on three hits, and struck out eight batters to move to 2-0 on the season.

Sean Hogan, and Saltzman all collected two hits apiece.
The Lions host Merrimack in their home opener Saturday, Mar. 3. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
