Bridgeport, Conn. (Feb. 21, 2018) – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Bridgeport Purple Knights, 54-40, Wednesday evening at Hubbell Gymnasium. The Lions moved to 8-19 overall and 3-14 in ECC play. Freshman
Melody Prichard tallied a game-high 19 points, and junior
Ihnacinse Grady netted 10 points for the maroon and white.
After Bridgeport (9-18, 6-11 ECC) jumped ahead 2-0, Prichard hit a three-pointer to put the Lions ahead 3-2. The Purple Knights scored the next seven points to go up 9-3. Prichard scored again to cut the lead to 9-5. The home team led 12-5 after the first stanza.
The Purple Knights outscored Molloy 13-2 in the second frame and led 25-7 at the break.
Bridgeport extended its lead to 31-11 in the third quarter. With the score 34-15, the Lions went on an 8-0 run, led by three points from Prichard and Grady, to shrink the home team's lead to 34-23. The Purple Knights added a basket before the end of the quarter and led 36-23 after 30 minutes of play.
Prichard made a pair of free throws to make it an 11-point game, 46-35, with 3:26 left, but that was as close as the Lions would get.
Molloy concludes the regular season Saturday, Feb. 24, against Mercy. Tip-off with the Mavericks is slated for 2:00 p.m.
