Courtney Greene picked up her first collegiate win and shutout in softball's second day of competition at the Snowbird Freeze Out. The Lions split on the afternoon, defeating Concord University before falling to the University of New Haven. Molloy sits at 3-1 on the season headed into the final day of action from Myrtle Beach.
Game One: Molloy 2, Concord 0
The maroon and white wasted no time in the first game, taking a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Senior
Brianna Dalton hit a double to left center field to score fellow senior
Olivia Banulski before Greene drove in sophomore
Mikaela Tribby with a single.
The rookie tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while fanning seven batters on the way to a 2-0 victory for Molloy. At the plate, Greene went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead the team.
Game Two: Molloy 1, New Haven 6
The Chargers struck first with RBI singles in both the second and third inning to take a 2-0 lead following three innings of play.
In the bottom of the fourth, freshman
Sarah Glaser scored on a sacrifice fly from senior
Sarah Rambo to cut the deficit in half.
New Haven took advantage of defensive errors from the Lions and scored three runs in the top of the fifth for a 5-1 lead before adding a final insurance run in the sixth off an RBI single.
Banulski went 2-for-4 for Molloy with Rambo recording the lone RBI. Junior
Jenna Turato pitched three innings, recording one strikeout while allowing six hits in the loss. Freshmen Greene and
Tonianne Larson each pitched in relief, combining for two strikeouts.
The Lions will conclude the Snowbird Freeze Out tomorrow (Feb. 18) as they face Le Moyne College (12:00 p.m.) and Clarion University (2:00 p.m.).
