Amherst, N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2018) – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Daemen Wildcats, 48-35, at Lumsden Gymnasium Friday evening. The Lions moved to 8-17 overall and 3-12 in ECC play. Freshman
Gabriella Aspuru netted a team-high 11 points, and sophomore
Kathryn Gibson tallied seven points.
Daemen (11-14, 8-7 ECC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Gibson scored to make it a 4-2 contest. With the home team ahead 8-2, freshman
Melody Prichard (three points) tallied three straight points to cut the lead to 8-5. The Wildcats led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The Wildcats opened the second stanza on a 12-2 run to increase their lead to 22-7 and led 25-11 at the break.
Aspuru made a layup to cut the home team's advantage to 25-13 early in the third quarter. Daemen tallied five straight points to extend its lead to 30-13. Later in the frame, Aspuru hit a three-pointer to shrink the lead to 32-19. The Wildcats led 36-21 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
Aspuru made a pair of foul shots to make it a 45-33 game with 2:47 left, but that was as close as the Lions would get.
Molloy returns to action Saturday, Feb. 17, when it heads to play Roberts Wesleyan. Tip-off with the Redhawks is slated for 2:00 p.m.
