Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Feb. 10, 2018) – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the NYIT Bears, 57-43, Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions moved to 8-16 overall and 3-11 in the conference. Freshman
Gabriella Aspuru netted a team-high 14 points, and freshman
Melody Prichard tallied eight points.
The Lions jumped out to a 6-2 advantage on baskets from freshman
Marthe Guirand (seven points), Prichard, and sophomore
Kathryn Gibson (six points). NYIT (15-9, 9-5 ECC) ended the frame with 17 straight points and led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bears tallied the first five points of the second quarter to increase their lead to 24-6. The Lions outscored the visitors 18-5, led by 10 points from Aspuru, to cut the lead to 29-24 at the break.
Prichard and Guirand netted back-to-back baskets to begin the third stanza to shrink NYIT's lead to 29-28. The Bears went on a 10-0 run to make it 39-28. The away team led 43-32 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
Prichard made a layup to make it a 43-35 contest with 7:59 left, but that was as close as the home team would get.
Molloy returns to action Friday, Feb. 16, when its travels to play Daemen. Tip-off with the Wildcats is slated for 6:00 p.m.
