Women's Basketball's Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against #25 Stonehill

Easton, Mass. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the #25 Stonehill Skyhawks, 73-60, Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium. The Lions moved to 6-6. Stonehill improved to 10-2.

How it Happened
  • Stonehill jumped out to an early 11-3 advantage.  
  • Junior Jenna Silletti netted four of the Lions' next six points to cut the home team's lead to 15-9.
  • The Skyhawks led 21-11 after the first quarter.
  • Stonehill extended its lead to 38-17 with 2:55 left in the first half.
  • Molloy tallied the next seven points, led by four points from sophomore Melody Prichard, to make it a 38-24 contest.
  • The Skyhawks led 43-26 at the half.
  • With the score 55-38, the maroon and white scored five straight points, led by four from redshirt senior Tyra Harrison, to cut the home team's advantage to 55-43 with 2:01 left in the third stanza.
  • Stonehill led 58-46 after 30 minutes of play.
  • Prichard made a layup to cut the Skyhawks' lead to 66-58 with 1:38 left, but that was as close as the Lions would get as the home team went on to win 73-60.
Top Performances
  • Prichard netted a team-high 14 points, on 7-of-11 shooting.
  • Silletti tallied 12 points and five rebounds.
  • Harrison scored 11 points.
  • Sophomore Marthe Guirand registered seven points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Gabriella Aspuru recorded seven points and seven rebounds.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white returns to action tomorrow, December 30, against Assumption. Tip-off with the Greyhounds is scheduled for 1:30 at Merkert Gymnasium.
