Caldwell, N.J. – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Caldwell Cougars, 54-47, Saturday afternoon at the Newman Center. The Lions improved to 5-1. The Cougars fell to 0-5.

How it Happened

• The Lions scored eight of the game's first 12 points to take an 8-4 advantage.
• The Cougars netted the next six points to go ahead 10-8.
• Down 12-11, junior Jenna Silletti made a three-pointer, and sophomore Gabriella Aspuru made a basket to put Molloy ahead 16-12. The maroon and white led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter.
• The home team led 22-19 with 3:40 left in the half.
• With the Cougars ahead 24-23, redshirt senior Tyra Harrison hit a triple to give the Lions a 26-24 lead at the break.
• With Molloy ahead 34-30, junior Kathryn Gibson hit consecutive threes, and sophomore Marthe Guirand made a layup to extend the lead to 42-30. The visitors led 42-32 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
• Freshman Ellen Iverson hit a three to give the maroon and white a 13-points lead, 45-32, which was its biggest lead of the contest.

Top Performances

• Sophomore Melody Prichard scored a team-high 16 points and tallied seven rebounds.
• Harrison netted 11 points.
• Aspuru and Gibson scored seven points apiece.
• Guirand recorded four points and 10 rebounds.

• "We benefited greatly today from the bench play of Keely McEachern, Ellen Iversen, Jenna Silletti and Kathryn Gibson," head coach Joe Pellicane said. "They all provided team communication vital to successful plays on both ends. Marthe Guirand's rebounding and Melody Prichard's timely scoring were vital to the final outcome."
