Aspuru Leads Women's Basketball Past Wilmington

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Wilmington Wildcats, 81-57, Wednesday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 4-1. The Wildcats fell to 0-7.

How it Happened
  • Molloy trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Wilmington increased its lead to 23-16 with 8:12 left in the second stanza.
  • With the score 27-22, the Lions ended the half on a 20-3 run, led by nine points from sophomore Gabriella Aspuru and five points from junior Jenna Silletti, to go ahead 42-30.
  • The Wildcats cut the home team's lead to nine, 44-35, with 7:36 left in the third frame.
  • With the score 49-39, the maroon and white scored the final 12 points of the quarter, led by four points from Aspuru, and led 61-39 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
  • Silletti opened the final quarter with a basket to give the Lions' a 24-point advantage, 63-39, which was their largest lead of the game.
  • The road team cut Molloy's advantage to 65-51 with 4:55 remaining.
  • Sophomore Melody Prichard led the maroon and white with six points down the stretch to secure the victory.
Top Performances
  • Aspuru netted a game-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Prichard and Silletti tallied 13 points each.
  • Senior Ihnacinse Grady, sophomore Marthe Guirand, and redshirt senior Tyra Harrison scored eight points apiece.
  • Guirand recorded nine rebounds.
  • Grady logged seven assists and seven rebounds.

  • "Wilmington played extremely hard, and it took us 40 minutes to win the scoreboard," head coach Joe Pellicane said.
Looking Ahead
  • The maroon and white travels to play Caldwell Saturday, December 1. Tip-off with the Cougars is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
