Women's Basketball Defeats Goldey-Beacom, 66-48

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Goldey-Beacom Lightning, 66-48, Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 2-1. The Lightning fell to 2-1.

How it Happened
  • Both teams went back and forth in the first quarter, and Goldey-Beacom led 19-18 after the first frame.
  • Molloy went on a 10-2 run, led by four points from junior Jenna Silletti, and three points from junior Kathryn Gibson and freshman Ellen Iversen, to take a 28-22 lead.
  • Redshirt senior Tyra Harrison hit a three-pointer to extend the Lions' lead to 34-25, and the home team led 36-27 at the half.
  • Sophomore Marthe Guirand opened the third stanza with a basket to put the maroon and white ahead 38-27. With the score 42-34, Molloy scored eight of the final 10 points of the quarter, led by six points from sophomore Melody Prichard, and maintained a 50-36 lead at the end of 30 minutes of play.
  • The Lions went on a 9-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to bring their lead to 59-39.
  • Molloy held on for a 66-48 victory.
Top Performances
  • Gibson netted a game-high 14 points, on 5-of-7 shooting.  
  • Senior Ihnacinse Grady tallied nine points, six assists, and five steals.
  • Prichard recorded 12 points.
  • Silletti and Iversen each registered eight points.
Coach's Comments
  • "It was a great team effort," head coach Joe Pellicane said. "Goldey-Beacom came in with two wins against the Northeast-10. They are extremely well coached. We had to work for the victory today. Going forward, this game will help us. It will emphasize what is needed for success."
Looking Ahead 
  • The maroon and white hits the road to play Concordia Tuesday, November 20. Tip-off with the Clippers is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
