Elcock Nets Game-Winner in Senior Day Victory for Field Hockey

Seaford, N.Y. – Sophomore Nadia Elcock's goal in the 56th minute propelled the field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College. Molloy improved to 10-5 on the season with the win and has secured first-place amongst the three East Coast Conference schools, advancing them to the championship on Sunday, November 4.

Prior to the contest, the program honored the five members of its graduating class, Arissa Viola, Lauren Keller, Kelly Saronka, Tara Byrnes, and Zoe Norton in a Senior Day ceremony.
 
How it Happened
  • Molloy held a 9-5 shot advantage at the end of the first half, but the contest remained scoreless.
  • Norton finished a smooth pass from Elcock just 37 seconds into the second half to put the maroon and white in front, 1-0.
  • The Spartans' offense responded, outshooting the Lions 7-4 in the second half.
  • In the 53rd minute, Briannah Thorne knotted the contest with a penalty  stroke.
  • The Lions pulled ahead just three minutes later, as Elcock buried a feed from freshman Jessica Kleber for the game-winner.
  • STAC drew four penalty corners and fired five shots in the final 14 minutes of play, but the Molloy defense held on to seal the victory.
 
Top Performances
  • Norton fired a game-high four shots while Elcock took three.
  • Elcock tallied a game-high three points on one goal and one assist.
  • Byrnes made six saves in net.

Molloy heads to the University of New Haven on Tuesday (Oct. 23) at 7:00 p.m.
