Sparkill, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2018) – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 79-40, Saturday afternoon at Aquinas Hall. The Lions moved to 8-13 overall and 3-8 in ECC play with the loss. Sophomore
Kathryn Gibson scored a team-high 11 points, and freshmen
Marthe Guirand and
Melody Prichard tallied six points apiece.
STAC (17-3, 9-1 ECC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Gibson answered with the three-pointer to knot the game at three. The Spartans went up 5-3, and the maroon and white tied the game on a basket from freshman
Gabriella Aspuru (two points). With the score 5-5, the home team outscored Molloy 24-6 to take a 29-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Spartans scored the first six points of the second stanza to extend their lead to 34-11. Freshman
Abigail Duvivier (five points) netted three consecutive points to make it a 34-14 contest. STAC took a 42-18 advantage into the break.
The home team outscored Molloy 37-22 in the second half.
The Lions return to action Saturday, Feb. 3, when they travel to play Queens College. Tip-off with the Knights is slated for 1:30 p.m.
