Poetzsch Leads Women's Soccer Past Stonehill

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2017) – Freshman Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored two goals, and freshman Lauren Marinello (Merrick, N.Y.) tallied two assists leading the Molloy women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks Wednesday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 1-2 with the win. Junior Amanda Milazzo (Setauket, N.Y.) added a goal for the maroon and white.

The Lions jumped ahead, 1-0, in the seventh minute after Marinello led a pass to Poetzsch, who made a run to the ball and scored.

Following Molloy's goal, Stonehill (2-1) controlled play in the offensive third. The Skyhawks fired the next nine shots (seven on goal), but freshman Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) kept the maroon and white in the match making all seven of her saves in the opening frame.

In the second half, Marinello touched a pass to Poetzsch in the box for her second tally of the game.  In the 74th minute, the Lions, who outshot the Skyhawks 5-2 in the second half, struck again. Graduate student Kayla Roundsman (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) sent a corner a kick into the box that was headed in by Milazzo to make it 3-0.

Following the third goal, the Molloy defense was able to hold on to the lead for the team's first win of the season.

The Lions return to action Tuesday, Sept. 12 when they play Caldwell University. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
