Women's Soccer Explodes for Six Goals in Win Over Dominican

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2017) – Six different Lions found the back of the net as the Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Dominican Chargers, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at John  A. Darcy Field. The Lions improve to 4-3-1 with the win, and freshman Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made two stops for her fourth shutout of the season.

The maroon and white struck first in the 11th minute. Junior Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.) fired a free kick from the top of the box in to make it 1-0. Molloy added to its lead in the 20th minute after junior Amanda Milazzo (Setauket, N.Y.) buried a pass from senior Samantha Mendes (Mineola, N.Y.).

Freshman Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 41st minute to increase the home team's lead to 3-0.

The Lions, who outshot Dominican 20-5, picked up where they left off in the second half. Senior Kristen Cummings (Huntington, Station, N.Y.) touched a corner kick in from graduate student Kayla Roundsman (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) in the 48th minute.Two minutes later, junior Caroline Zimmerman (Hicksville, N.Y) tallied a goal, which was assisted by junior Sam Bernieri (Massapequa, N.Y.), to bring the advantage to 5-0.

Bernieri netted a goal in the 74th minute, off an assist from sophomore Amy D'Eloia (East Northport, N.Y.), to make it 6-0.

Molloy, which has scored 11 goals in its last two matches, returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 4, when it travels to play LIU Post. Kickoff against the Pioneers is slated for 3:30 p.m.
