Women's Soccer Ties Georgian Court on the Road, 5-5

Lakewood, N.J. (Sept. 28, 2017) - Freshman Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) netted her first career hat trick, and senior Felicia LaPera (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied two goals, as the Molloy women's soccer team and the Georgian Court Lions played to a 5-5 draw Thursday afternoon. The Lions move to 3-3-1 with the tie.

Molloy opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Poetzsch converted a penalty kick.

Georgian Court (6-3-2) knotted the score, 1-1, on a goal from Heather Arbachesky. Two minutes later, the home team jumped ahead, 2-1, after Lauren Mendez found the back of the net.

But the maroon and white answered quickly. 1:04 following the Georgian Court goal, LaPera booted a ball, touched to her by junior Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.), in to make it 2-2.

Anissia Fucci tallied a goal in the 40th minute to give the home team a 3-2 edge at the break.

Molloy made it 3-3 on a goal from Poetzsch, which was assisted by senior Mariella Gotti (Valley Stream, N.Y.)  in the 49th minute. The freshman scored again, off an assist from Merino, in the 60th minute to put the Lions up, 4-3.

But Georgian Court responded with goals from Fucci and Kaitlin Lister in the 64th and 65th minutes, respectively.

LaPera finished a pass from Poetzsch, for her second goal of the contest, to tie the score, 5-5, in the 89th minute.

In the overtime sessions, each team registered a shot, but couldn't score the winner.

Freshman keeper Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made eight stops in the match.

The Lions return to action Saturday, Sept. 30, when they welcome Caldwell to John A. Darcy Field. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
