Rochester, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2017) – Senior
Samantha Mendes (Mineola, N.Y) scored in the ninth minute to lead the Molloy women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks Saturday afternoon. The Lions improve to 3-3 on the season and 2-0 in the ECC with the win. Freshman
Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made three saves for her third shutout of the season.
The Lions, who outshot the Red Hawks 5-2 in the first half, opened the scoring on a goal by Mendes in the ninth minute.
In the second half, Molloy's offense was led by freshman
Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior
Dominique Capolongo (Islip, N.Y.), who fired three shots each. The team directed eight shots towards the goal, but couldn't find a way to net an insurance tally. The home team shot twice in the second stanza, and Carty stopped both tries.
The Lions return to action Thursday, Sept. 28, when they head to play Georgian Court. Kick-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
