Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) netted two goals, and junior
Amanda Milazzo (Setauket, N.Y) and senior
Samantha Mendes (Mineola, N.Y.) each tallied a goal leading the Molloy women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over the Queens Knights Saturday afternoon at the Queens College Soccer Field. The Lions improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in ECC Play with the win. Freshman keeper
Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made seven saves to record her second shutout of the season.
The maroon and white opened the scoring in the 17
th minute on a goal from Milazzo. The visitors added another tally in the 25
th minute. Poetzsch won the ball, made a move around a defender, and fired the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Molloy would increase its lead to 3-0 in the opening minute of the second half after Poetzsch converted a penalty kick.
Mendez scored her first goal of the season to bring the Lions' lead to 4-0 in the 75
th minute.
Queens (1-4-1,0-1 ECC), which outshot Molloy 18-11, had chances to get on the board, but couldn't beat Carty.
The Lions continue ECC play Saturday, Sept. 23, when they head to Rochester to play Roberts Wesleyan. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
