Women's Soccer Falls to Bentley in Season Opener

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2017) – The Molloy women's soccer team fell in its season opener to the Bentley Falcons, 1-0, Friday evening at John A. Darcy Field.

The Falcons (1-0) netted the match's lone goal in the 46th minute. After Carly Kohler (West Islip, N.Y.) hit the cross bar, Lindsey Connolly (Suffield, Conn.) gathered the rebound and put it into the net.

Down a goal, the Lions (0-1) looked to even the score. In the 75th minute, senior Kristen Cummings (Huntington Staton, N.Y.) fired a shot over the net off of a corner kick from junior Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.).

The maroon and white created another chance off of a Merino corner kick in the 90th minute, but junior Amanda Milazzo's (Setauket, N.Y.) header was stopped.

In the first half, each team created limited chances, and Bentley outshot Molloy 4-2.

Graduate student Kayla Roundsman (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and sophomore Amy D'Eloia (East Northport, N.Y.)  led the Lions with two shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made five saves in her collegiate debut.

The Lions return to John A. Darcy Field Sunday, Sept. 3 when they host Merrimack. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
