Seniors Shine in 15-6 Victory Over UDC on Senior Day

Scuilla Becomes Program's All-Time Face-Off Win Leader

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 8, 2017) – Led by hat tricks from senior Connor Slane (West Babylon, N.Y.), junior Tim Steinman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), and freshman Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y.), Molloy men's lacrosse earned a 15-6 victory over the University of the District of Columbia.

The Firebirds got out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Teilen Celentano (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). A feed to Slane from junior Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) would knot the game at one before Molloy would take the lead on a goal from Pasiter, assisted by junior Zach Antonette (Seaford, N.Y.). The Lions maintained that lead for the remainder of the contest, ending the first quarter up 5-1 following goals from Steinman, sophomore Mike Durkin (Lake Grove, N.Y.), and Slane.

Early in the second frame, UDC would twice come within three on goals from Alan Singleton (Montreal, Canada) and Syrrus Nash (Syracuse, N.Y.). The maroon and white then responded with four unanswered goals spanning two quarters from senior Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.), Kelly, Steinman, and freshman Travis Cooksey (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Late in the third frame, Pasiter and Kelly would each net their second markers of the contest to take a 12-4 lead. The Firebirds made it 12-5 on a man-up goal from LaRon Hinton (Woodbridge, Va.), but the Lions would score the next three to take a 15-5 lead. UDC notched one final marker from Zach Hart (Springfield, Va.) to bring the contest to its final score of 15-6.

Molloy was led by five points from Steinman (three goals, two assists), Slane (three goals, two assists), and Kelly (two goals, three assists). Senior Frank Sciulla (Rocky Point, N.Y.) went 15-of-19 on face-offs, becoming the program's all-time leading face-off win leader with 553 total wins. Senior Rob Steinert (Lynbrook, N.Y.) picked up a game-high eight ground balls while adding an assist while Durkin and senior Jack Matthews (Stony Brook, N.Y.) caused a game-high four turnovers. Junior Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made eight saves in the victory, while freshman Andrew McDougal (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up one save in relief.

The Lions head out of conference on Wednesday (Apr. 12) as they head to Worcester, Mass. for a contest with Assumption College. Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
