Camposa Scores Five in 12-6 Victory Over Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (Apr. 12, 2017) – Senior Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals on the way to a 12-6 victory for Molloy's men's lacrosse team over the Greyhounds of Assumption College. With the win, the Lions now improve to 7-4 while the loss drops Assumption to 5-4 on the season.

Junior Tim Steinman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored early in the first quarter to give the maroon and white an early 1-0 lead. They Greyhounds knotted the score with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter. As time was about to expire in the opening 15 minutes of play, freshman Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y.) scored his 20th of the season to put Molloy ahead 2-1.

Camposa netted three straight goals through the second quarter, single-handedly putting Molloy ahead 5-1. A marker from senior Connor Slane (West Babylon, N.Y.) gave the Lions a 6-1 lead headed into the half.

Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass.)cut the deficit to four goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but Pastier netted his second of the contest on the man-up opportunity to make it 72. Camposa (man-up) and freshman Travis Cooksey (Wantagh, N.Y.) gave Molloy a seven goal, 9-2 lead. Trevor Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) once again brought the Greyhounds within six, but Pastier completed the hat trick to end the quarter with the visitors up 10-3.

Assumption scored two goals in the final 15 minutes, but Steinman and Camposa scored to give Molloy the 12-6 victory.

Camposa led the contest with six points (five goals, one assist). Pastier totaled five points on three goals and two assists, while Steinman had three points on two goals and one assist. Cooksey (one goal, one assist) and junior Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) (two assists) added two points while Slane (one goal), and freshmen Gabriel Garcia (Miami, Fla.) (one assist) and Colin Kotarski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) (one assist) each chipped in one point.
Sophomore Mike Durkin (Lake Grove, N.Y.) led with a game-high three caused turnovers and team-leading five ground balls. Junior Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made five stops in net in the victory.

Molloy continues a stretch of road games at Roberts Wesleyan College next Saturday (Apr. 22) at 12:00 p.m.
