Tim Steinman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and senior
Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.)each netted three goals on the way to an 11-5 victory for the Molloy men's lacrosse team at Roberts Wesleyan College. The Lions improve to 8-4 on the season and sit at an even 3-3 in East Coast Conference play, while the loss drops the Redhawks to 4-9 (1-6 ECC).
The maroon and white had a dominant start, scoring seven unanswered goals through the game's first 20 minutes. Senior
Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) put Molloy on the board first, with goals from Steinman and freshman
Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y.) following just under two minutes later. Slane then scored three straight markers to earn his hat trick. The Molloy scoring run was completed by a goal from junior
Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) to put the Lions ahead 7-0.
The Redhawks got on the board midway through the second quarter on a goal from senior Alex Bianchi (Rochester, N.Y.). Steinman netted his second of the game to close the half with Molloy holding an 8-1 lead.
Through the second half of play, the teams would trade goals back and forth with neither side stringing together consecutive markers. Steinman netted his third of the contest in the fourth quarter, while goals from Pastier and freshman
Colin Kotarski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) kept the Lions ahead and eventually gave the team the 11-5 victory.
Steinman (three goals, one assist) and Pastier (two goals, two assists) each totaled a game-high four points in the effort while Slane (three goals) and Kelly (one goal, two assists) scored three. Kotarski (one goal, one assist) and sophomore
Michael Scheuerer (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each chipped in two. Senior
Rob Steinert (Lynbrook, N.Y.) picked up a game-high seven ground balls while sophomore
Mike Durkin (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and redshirt senior
Jack Matthews (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each grabbed two. Durkin also caused a team-leading three turnovers in the effort. Between the pipes, junior
Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made five saves.
Molloy concludes the road portion of the regular season on Monday (Apr. 24) as they face Dominican College at 4:00 p.m.
