Kelly Scores Career-High in Explosive 17-3 Victory Over Dominican College

HILLBURN, N.Y. (Apr. 24, 2017) – Junior Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) netted a career-high five goals in Molloy men's lacrosse's penultimate game of the regular season. The victory sets the Lions at 9-4 (4-3 East Coast Conference) headed into the final weekend while the Chargers sit at 5-8 (1-6 ECC) with the loss.

The midfielder led off the scoring for the maroon and white, scoring at 11:02. Freshman Travis Cooksey (Wantagh, N.Y.) fed junior Tim Steinman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to double Molloy's lead, but Evan Heegan (North Babylon, N.Y.) quickly scored to take the Chargers back within one. Steinman notched a hat trick in the final 30 seconds of the opening quarter, scoring back-to-back markers to put the Lions ahead 4-1.

Dominican would score twice in the second quarter, but headed into the half trailing 8-3 following two goals from Kelly and markers from freshman Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y.) and junior Zach Antonette (Seaford, N.Y.).

Molloy would keep the Chargers off the board in the second half, scoring seven unanswered goals. Pastier began the third quarter with an unassisted goal before freshman Colin Kotarski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) fed Kelly and senior Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) Kelly added his fifth of the day before senior Jack Fagan (Hicksville, N.Y.) found the back of the net on a feed from sophomore Michael Scheuerer (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to end the third quarter 13-3 in favor of the visitors.

Steinman and Pastier each scored early in the fourth frame before senior Rob Steinert (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Gabriel Garcia (Miami, Fla.) brought the contest to 17-3.

Kelly added one assist for a game-high six points on the afternoon while Steinman's four goals gave him four points. Pastier and Fagan each added three points; Garcia, Cooksey, Steinert, Kotarski, and Camposa chipped in two points. Sophomore defender Mike Durkin (Lake Grove, N.Y.) set new career-highs, picking up six ground balls and causing five turnovers. In goal, junior Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made nine saves.

Molloy will host Chestnut Hill College on Saturday (Apr. 29) in the final game of the regular season. Face-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
