Men's Lacrosse Falls in Season Finale, 16-7

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2017) – The Molloy men's lacrosse team fell victim  to eight unanswered goals from the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in the final game of the regular season, dropping a 16-7 decision.

The maroon and white fell behind early as Andrew Dooley (Monroe Township, N.J.) scored twice in the opening five minutes. Freshman Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y) responded with two straight goals of his own with senior Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) assisting on both markers.

The Griffins added another goal in the first quarter, but senior Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y) scored to tie the game 3-3. Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada) scored to end the first quarter and give Chestnut Hill the 4-3 lead going into the second frame. Dooley and Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada) each found the back of the net to take the Griffins up 6-3.

Junior Tim Steinman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) netted a goal to bring Molloy back within two, but an eight-goal run spanning 24 minutes of play gave Chestnut Hill a 14-4 lead. In the fourth quarter, Steinman, Slane, and freshman Travis Cooksey (Wantagh, N.Y.) would score for the Lions, but the maroon and white ultimately ran out of time, falling 16-7.

Camposa led with three points on three assists while Steinman, Pastier, and Slane each scored twice for two points. Senior Frank Sciulla (Rocky Point, N.Y.) went 18-for-26 on the face-off, picking up eight ground balls while sophomore Mike Durkin (Glendale, N.Y.) caused four turnovers. Junior Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made 13 stops while freshman Andrew McDougal (Oceanside, N.Y.) added three in relief.

With the loss, the Lions finish the season 9-5 (4-4 East Coast Conference). The loss to Chestnut Hill eliminates the maroon and white from playoff contention. For the latest information on all of your favorite Molloy College teams, check www.molloylions.com.
