Women's Lacrosse Defeats UDC for First ECC Win of the Season

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (March 25, 2017) - The Molloy women's lacrosse team defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 21-4, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy field to record its first East Coast Conference victory of the season. The Lions improved to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in ECC play with the win.

Sophomore Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.), who netted two goals and recorded four assists, registered a game-high six points. Sophomore Casie Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.), who tallied two goals and three helpers, recorded five points. Junior Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) and junior Angela Bollettieri (Plainview, N.Y.) scored three goals each in the win. Jazmin Lopez (Miami, Fla.) scored two goals for UDC, which fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the ECC. 

The Lions jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage, led by two goals from Markowitz, and a goal each from senior Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Caiazza. Lopez scored for the Firebirds to cut the lead to 4-1. Senior Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.), Wilson, and Sesselman netted the next three goals of the contest to increase the lead to 7-1. After UDC cut the lead to 7-2, the home team ended the half with nine straight goals, Bollettieri, Caiazza, freshman Amanda Reyes (East Meadow, N.Y.), sophomore Michaela Siegler (Levittown, N.Y.), Wilson, Watson, senior Laura Rice (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), and Markowitz scored during the rally, which made it 16-2 at the break.

Freshman Kelsey Hammel (West Babylon, N.Y.), sophomore Molly Brown (Massapequa, N.Y.), Bollettieri, Reyes, and redshirt junior Brittany Lang (Hicksville, N.Y.) added goals for Molloy in the second half on its way to a 21-4 victory.

Senior Gabrielle Batista (Hicksville, N.Y.) controlled a team-high four draws. Cooper and Watson each picked up three ground balls, and sophomore goalie Alyssa Chetti (West Babylon, N.Y.) made four saves.

The Lions hit the road to play St. Thomas Aquinas next Saturday (Apr. 1). The game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
