ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.- The Molloy women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 11 University of New Haven Chargers, 15-10, Thursday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to 1-1 overall in the loss.
Jessica Mazliah recorded a game-high eight points (six goals and two assists), and Kendall Cietek (Guilderland, N.Y.) netted four goals for New Haven, which improved to 1-0. Sophomore
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied a team-high five points (three goals and two assists), and junior
Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored three goals for the Lions.
New Haven scored the first three goals of the contest. Molloy answered with three consecutive goals from Markowitz, senior
Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), and Wilson to tie the game at three. Cietek found the back of the net to put the Chargers ahead 4-3. The maroon and white responded with back to back goals from Wilson and senior
Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.), who recorded three points, to take a 5-4 lead. The road team closed the half by scoring the game's next six goals to take a 10-5 advantage into the break.
Markowitz opened the scoring in the second half to cut the Chargers' lead to 10-6. The teams traded goals until the score was 12-8. Mazliah and Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn.) scored the next two goals to make it 14-8 New Haven. Sesselman netted her second goal of the game to cut the lead to 14-9, but that was as close as the Lions would get in the 15-10 loss.
The Lions head to Rochester, N.Y. to begin ECC play against Roberts Wesleyan University Saturday (Mar.4). The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
