CLERMONT, FLA. - The Molloy softball team concluded the PFX Spring Games with a pair of victories against the American International College Yellow Jackets at the Legends Way Ballfields. The Lions won game one 10-1 and game two 3-2. The maroon and white finished the tournament with a 5-1 record and improved to 9-3 overall.
Game One: Molloy 10. American International College 1
The Lions used a seven-run fifth inning on their way to a 10-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets in game one.
AIC opened the scoring in the second inning. Alexis DiLeo (Cheshire, N.Y.) recorded a RBI to make it 1-0.
Molloy  jumped ahead in the fifth inning. Freshman
Mikaela Tribby (Boca Rato, Fla.) singled to right field to bring in a run and tied the score at one. Junior
Alexandra Russo (Coram, N.Y.) reached on an error, which scored another run and made it 2-1. The next batter, junior
Sarah Rambo (Eagleville, Pa.) drove in two runs with a single up the middle to increase the lead to 4-1. With the bases loaded, junior
Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) capped the rally with a bases-clearing double.
The Lions added insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Junior
Makayla Harris (Berlin, Conn.) hit a RBI single to make it 8-1. Later in the frame, senior
Ashley Fedor drove in two runs with a single up the middle to bring the advantage to 10-1.
Senior
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) threw a complete game, gave up one run on seven hits, and struck out 12 batters to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Game Two: Molloy 3, American International College 2
Molloy defeated AIC, 3-2, in the second game.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after DiLeo hit a two-run home run to left field.
The Lions responded with a three-run third inning. Graduate student
Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs with a double to knot the score at two. Later in the inning, Russo reached on an error, which brought Botte home.
AIC threatened in the top of the seventh. With one out, sophomore Kayla Riley (Haverhill, Mass.) doubled. Hawks then came in and retired the next two batters to pick up her third save of the season.
Freshman
Jenna Turato (Garden City Park, N.Y.) pitched 6.1 innings, gave up two runs on four hits, and struck out three to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Molloy continues its Florida trip with a doubleheader against Barry University Wednesday (Mar.15). The games are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
