No. 17 Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 3 Merrimack, 13-5

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2017)- The No. 17 Molloy men's lacrosse team fell to the No. 3 Merrimack Warriors, 13-5, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to 2-1 overall in the loss.

Senior Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.), who netted a goal and registered two assists, and junior Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), who recorded three assists, contributed three points apiece.  Senior Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y.) scored two goals each. Charlie Bertrand (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) logged a game-high five points for Merrimack, which improved to 2-0.

The Warriors scored the first five goals of the contest. Senior John Basset (Clifton Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the road team. Max Allen (West Caldwell, N.J.) netted the next two goals to make it 3-0 at the end of the opening frame.

Bertrand made it 4-0 at the beginning of second quarter. Kyle Stenberg (Annandale, N.J.) capped the run to increase the lead to 5-0. The Lions responded with a 3-0 rally of their own. Pastier put the maroon and white on the board with 3:44 left in the first half. Less than a minute later, Slane found the back of the net to cut the lead to 5-2. Pastier scored his second of the half to cut the Merrimack lead to 5-3 at the end of the first half.

Merrimack increased its lead to 6-3 on a man-up goal from Bertrand. Camposa answered with a tally to cut the lead back to two, 6-4. That was as close as the Lions would get, the Warriors outscored the home team 7-1 to close the game.

Junior Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the loss.

Molloy returns to action Saturday (Mar.4) when it travels to play ECC foe LIU Post. The game is slated to start at 11:00 a.m.
