NORTH CANTON, Ohio (February 18, 2017) - The No.18 Molloy men's lacrosse team continued its winning ways with an 8-6 victory over the Walsh University Cavaliers Saturday afternoon. The Lions improved to 2-0 in the win.
Freshman
Kevin Pastier (Plainview, N.Y.) led the maroon and white with two goals. Nicholas Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Alex Hudgens (South Lyon, MI) scored two goals apiece for Walsh, which fell to 0-1.
The Lions netted the first four goals of the contest. Freshman
Travis Cooksey (Wantagh, N.Y.) made it 1-0 with 7:47 left in the opening frame. 41 seconds later, Pastier tallied his first goal of the game, on the man advantage, to increase the lead to 2-0.
In the second quarter, Senior
Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied a man-up goal to make it 3-0. Freshman
Sean Daly (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) concluded the rally with a goal. The Cavaliers scored back to back goals from Bryan Crim (Reading, Pa) and Hudgens to cut the road team's lead to 4-2. Pastier added his second marker of the contest to give Molloy a 5-2 advantage at the half.
The Lions brought their lead back to four, 6-2, on a goal from junior
Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). Walsh then scored the next three goals to cut Molloy's lead to 6-5.
Senior
Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) found the back of the net to extend the Lions' lead to 7-5 in the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers made it a one-goal game, 7-6, on a goal from Hudgens. Freshman
Colin Kotarski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) put the game away with an insurance tally with under 6:30 left.
Sophomore
Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y) registered 12 saves in the victory.
Molloy returns home Saturday (Feb. 25) to host No. 3 Merrimack College. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
