Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Dec. 19, 2017) – The men's basketball team fell to local rival Adelphi University, 110-77, in the penultimate game of the 2017 calendar year. The Lions (3-9) were led by 21 points from sophomore Nick
Corbett. The guard shot 7-of-14 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line, adding three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Corbett was joined in double digits by juniors
Mike Torre (16),
Curtis Jenkins (14), and freshman
Steven Torre (10).
Steven Torre led Molloy with four assists while redshirt freshman
Justin Caldwell pulled down a team-high six boards. Senior
Shandy Casimir recorded two blocks in the effort.
The Panthers had seven players reach double digit point totals, led by 23 from Michael Coffey.
Molloy tallied the first basket, a layup from
Mike Torre, to start the contest. The 2-0 lead, however, would be the only lead of the day for the maroon and white as Adelphi went ahead 5-2 on a triple from Conor McGuinness and never looked back.
With 13 minutes remaining in the half, a jumper from Jenkins brought Molloy with nine, 21-12, but the visitors quickly regained their double digit lead before taking a 67-40 lead into the second half.
The Lions would come within 25, 96-71, with seven minutes to play in the contest on a layup from
Steven Torre before Adelphi ultimately came away with the victory.
Molloy will close out the 2017 portion of its schedule in its final non-conference bout of the year, welcoming Pace University to Rockville Centre on Dec. 30 at 2:00 p.m.
