Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Dec. 16, 2017) – The Molloy women's basketball team was defeated by the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 58-47, Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions move to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in ECC play with the loss. Junior Ihnacinse Grady recorded a double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds) for the maroon and white.

The Spartans (10-0, 3-0 ECC) opened the game on a 13-2 run. Sophomore Kathryn Gibson (six points) hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 13-5. STAC increased its lead to 17-5 and led 18-8 after the first quarter.

St. Thomas Aquinas netter the first basket of the second quarter to go ahead 20-8. The Lions answered with a 7-0 rally, led by three points from freshman Gabriella Aspuru (seven points), to make it a 20-15 contest. The Spartans went on an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 28-15. The road team maintained a double-digit lead until the end of the quarter and led 34-23 at the half.

Down 35-23, Grady hit a triple to trim STAC's lead to 35-26. The Spartans brought their lead to 43-30, but Molloy ended the frame with eight consecutive points, led by three points from Grady, and trailed 43-38 at the end of three.

The away team opened a 56-43 advantage with 1:57 left and held on for the victory.

The Lions return to action Saturday, Dec. 30, when it hosts Bentley. Tip-off with the Falcons is scheduled for noon.
