Bloomfield, N.J. (Nov. 25, 2017) – Led by 19 points from
Ihnacinse Grady, the Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Bloomfield Bears, 44-41, Saturday afternoon at Bloomfield Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 3-3 with the victory.
Bloomfield (0-5) tallied the first four points of the contest. The Lions netted six of the game's next eight points to knot the score at six. Down 7-6, freshman
Gabriella Aspuru (eight points, 12 rebounds) scored to put Molloy ahead 8-7. But the Bears took a 9-8 lead at the end of the first frame.
The home team extended its lead to four, 14-10, early in the second quarter. The maroon and white cut the lead to 14-12 on a jumper from Grady. Bloomfield responded with an 8-1 rally to end the quarter to bring a 20-13 advantage into the half.
Molloy opened the third quarter with the first six points to make it a 20-19 contest. Down 28-23, the Lions scored the next five points on a jumper by Grady, a free throw from Aspuru, and a pair of free throws from freshman
Marthe Guirand (nine points) to tie the score at 28. The Bears tallied the next four points, and Grady ended the quarter with a layup to cut the home team's lead to 32-30 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
Down 34-32, the Lions netted the next five points to go-ahead, 37-34. The Bears cut the lead to one, 37-36, but a layup by Guirand made it 39-36. With the lead late in the game, the visitors secured the win at the foul line.
Molloy returns home to play Adelphi Thursday, Nov. 30. Tip-off with the Panthers is slated for 5:30 p.m.
