Philadelphia, Pa (Nov. 12, 2017) – The Molloy women's basketball team was defeated by host Jefferson, 71-47, in the East Region Conference Challenge at the Gallagher Center Sunday afternoon. Freshman
Melody Prichard (Knightdale, N.C.) tallied a game-high 18 points, and junior
Ihnacinse Grady (Amityville, N.Y.) netted 10 points in the losing effort.
The Lions opened an early 8-4 advantage, led by five points from Prichard and three points from Grady. Jefferson (2-0) responded with a 9-0 rally to go ahead, 13-8. The Rams led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.
With the score 23-16, Grady made a triple to make it a 23-19 game. The home team outscored the maroon and white 12-4 for the rest of the stanza to increase its lead to 35-23 at the half.
The Rams led by Caitlyn Cunningham, who scored 9 of her 12 points in the second half, opened up a 25-point lead, 53-28, at the end of the third quarter.
Jefferson maintained the advantage in the fourth on its way to victory.
Freshmen
Gabriella Aspuru (Farmingville, N.Y.) and
Marthe Guirand (Stamford, Conn.) recorded six points each.
Molloy returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 15, when it welcomes Concordia to Quealy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
