Wehr's Career-High 18 Kills Leads Volleyball Over Roberts Wesleyan, 3-1

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2017) – Sophomore Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) tallied a career-high 18 kills, attacking at .500, in volleyball's 3-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College. The maroon and white move to 22-5 (11-2 ECC) on the season with the victory.

Wehr's effort comes off a performance that saw Molloy hit at .270 on the afternoon, including hitting at .500 in the fourth set. Redshirt sophomore Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) joined the hitter in double-digits, totaling 12 kills of her own.
The Lions played from behind in the first set until taking four straight points on kills from Wehr and freshmen Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.) and Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) to go up 10-7. From there, the maroon and white offense exploded, scoring 11 of the next 16 points to take a 21-12 lead before eventually taking the set, 25-15.

The second set saw much more back-and-forth action, as the Redhawks took a 23-20 lead late in the set. Banks tallied three straight kills to tie the contest but Roberts Wesleyan rallied for the final two points and the set.
Molloy erupted for two seven-point runs over the last two set, attacking at .345, to take the 3-1 victory.

Senior Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the contest with 25 digs and three service aces while Meyer added 12 digs of her own. Affrunti tallied nine kills while dominating at the net for six total blocks. Sophomore Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) added 50 assists.

The team concludes the regular season tomorrow (Nov. 12) against Daemen College at 12:00 p.m. in Quealy Gymnasium. Prior to the contest, the team will honor its lone senior, O'Neill, in a pre-game ceremony.
