Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 7, 2017) – The field hockey team opened a three-game road series in an 8-0 loss at Queens University of Charlotte. The loss sets the Lions at 0-11 on the season.
In a downpour of rain, the maroon and white quickly found themselves down 3-0 in the first 11 minutes of play. Following a timeout, the team's defense came together, as junior goalkeeper
Tara Byrnes (Huntington, N.Y.) made eight straight saves to keep Queens from extending the lead. In the 25

Nadia Elcock (Baldwin, N.Y.) fired a shot for Molloy, but it was blocked before reaching the net.
Kayleigh Lawrence opened the second frame with a goal for the Royals before the team added a fifth goal just six minutes later. The Lions worked the ball up field and earned two straight corners. On the first, senior
Jessica Waszczak (Northport, N.Y.) fired a shot that was blocked before senior
Melissa Fuerst (Selden, N.Y.) sent the ball just wide of the net. Fuerst fired again in the 68
th minute, also shooting wide before Waszczak took Molloy's lone shot on goal on the afternoon as Miranda Childers made the save.
Byrnes made a total of 14 saves on the afternoon while sophomore
Amanda Mesas (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added four saves in relief.
The team continues their trip as they face Converse College tomorrow (Oct. 8) in Spartanburg, N.C. at 1:00 p.m.
