Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Kelly Thompson, Director of Athletic Communications

Field Hockey Falls to Mercy, 2-0

Seaford, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2017) – In a day celebrating seniors Christina Carbone (East Meadow, N.Y.), Jessica Waszczak (Northport, N.Y.), and Melissa Fuerst (Selden, N.Y.), the field hockey team fell 2-0 to Mercy College.

Molloy recorded 17 shots (10 on goal) in the effort.

In the effort, Waszczak led the Lions with a career-high eight shots, six of which landed on target. Redshirt junior Zoe Norton (Sayville, N.Y.) and sophomore Lauren Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) registered four and three, respectively while Carbone and Fuerst each fired one.

The maroon and white also finished with a 17-5 advantage on the penalty corner.

The first goal for Mercy came in the 18th minute. The maroon and white continued working, drawing eight of their corners in the following 17 minutes of play, but were unable to push the attempts past Mavericks goalkeeper Cheradyn Pettit.

Just under two minutes into the second frame, Mercy doubled its lead off a corner.

Molloy fired eight shots to try and cut into the deficit, but goalkeeper Julia Amell, who came into net in the second half, continued the defensive effort and kept the Lions off the board.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tara Byrnes (Huntington, N.Y.) made nine saves in the effort.

The team will take on Converse College tomorrow in the season finale at 12:00 p.m. at Cedar Creek Park.
