Seaford, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2017) - The Molloy field hockey program concluded the 2017 campaign in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Converse College. The team ends the season with a record of 0-18.
Converse, who tallied 20 shots on the afternoon, got on the board first, as Marina Montes-Nino scored two goals in the first 26 minutes of play. The Lions were out-shot 11-8 in the first frame.
In the second half, however, the maroon and white came alive, outshooting the Valkyries 11-9. Redshirt junior
Zoe Norton (Sayville, N.Y.) put Molloy on the board as she beat Converse's goalie on a penalty shot in the 51st minute of play. Freshman
Nadia Elcock (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior
Jessica Waszczak (Northport, N.Y.) fired four shots following the penalty stroke in an effort to tie the contest, but goalkeeper Ciriaca Petitto kept all attempts from entering the net.
Flore Samsi extended Converse's lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute.
Elcock brought the Lions within one, 3-2, in the 68th minute with her second goal of the season following a pass from Norton. The home team, however, was unable to tie the game and fell in the season finale.

Tara Byrnes (Huntington, N.Y.) made 13 stops in the game.
