Lauren Marinello's (Merrick, N.Y.) first-half goal led the Molloy women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans Wednesday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improve to 5-6-2 overall and 3-3 in ECC play. Freshman
Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made six saves for her sixth shutout of the season.
The Lions scored the match's lone goal in the 7th minute after Marinello touched a cross from junior
Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.) into the net.
Molloy continued the pressure and outshot the Spartans 8-4 in the first half. Marinello fired five of her six tries in the opening stanza, and Carty made four saves in the first frame.
In the second half, the maroon and white, led by Carty, was able to hold on for a one-goal win.
The Lions return to action Saturday, Oct. 21, when they host Bridgeport on senior day. Kickoff with the Purple Knight is slated for noon.
