Men's Basketball Ends Year in 102-76 Loss to Roberts Wesleyan Saturday

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2016) - The Molloy College men's basketball team ended its season on Saturday (Feb. 27) with a 102-76 loss to Roberts Wesleyan at Quealy Gymnasium. The loss drops Molloy to a final record of 9-19 and 7-13 in ECC play while Roberts improves to 8-18 and 5-5 in conference competition.

On a day that was supposed to celebrate the seniors in maroon and white, it was the Redhawks' seniors that had a going-away party particular in a 65-point second half. Red-shirt senior guard Mike Stone (Kirkville, N.Y.) scored 26 points in the second half alone, hitting 6-of-8 from three-point territory while Marcus Gooding (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight points of his own. The Redhawks shot 64.1% (25-39) from the field in the second half including a blistering 11-21 (52.4%) from three-point territory in a display that almost made the crowd forget that the lead at halftime was just 37-35.

The seniors shined for Molloy, though as Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.)Chucks Obunse (St. Albans, N.Y.) and Maurice Gatson (New York, N.Y.) each scored 10 points in their final game of collegiate basketball. Kevin Bowles (Wantagh, N.Y.) had an eight-point game as well in his last time on the Quealy Gymnasium floor. Lost in the shuffle was the fact that junior guard Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) led the team with 21 points and scored his 1,000th career point (the third player to do so this season for the maroon and white) in the loss.
