ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2016) - Against the frigid backdrop of Hempstead Lake State Park, the Molloy College men's lacrosse team will begin the 2016 spring season in wintertime on Saturday (Feb. 20). The Lions will welcome in Assumption College to Rockville Centre for a 2 p.m. contest. Here are some facts about both teams to get Lions fans set for the contest.
About The Lions- Bernard Dell'Aquila will make his debut as head coach of the Lions. He was promoted after being an assistant since 2013.
- The Lions return 20 players from a squad that went 11-4 last season.
- Molloy will begin the season without their top two scorers from last year, Joe Leonard and Tom Engelhardt. The two combined for 143 of the teams' 302 points scored in 2015.
- Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) returns for his senior season. In his Junior year, he was named to the All-ECC Second-Team last year scoring 26 goals while adding eight assists.
-The preseason coaches' poll had Molloy finishing sixth out of nine teams in the East Coast Conference.
Concerning the Greyhounds
-Assumption is coming off a 9-8 season in which they earned their second-ever berth to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
-The 'Hounds return 17 players from last season. 20 newcomers also joined the program in the offseason
-The Greyhounds were picked seventh out of twelve teams in the Northeast-10 conference preseason poll.
- Senior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y.) is the leading returning scorer. He scored nine goals and 11 total points in 2015.
-The two teams faced off last year up in Massachusetts. Molloy took the matchup 9-5 on St. Patrick's Day in Worcester.
