Men's Soccer Humbled in ECC Final By No. 2 LIU Post, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2016) - An early own goal against the defense was enough to quell the Molloy College men's soccer team in Saturday's (Nov. 5) East Coast Conference Championship, as the second-ranked LIU Post Pioneers claimed a 3-0 victory over the Lions at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville. The Lions wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 11-5-1 on the year.

The early goal for LIU Post (17-0-1) came in the ninth minute, as the Pioneers crossed a ball into the box that took an unfortunate carom off of a Molloy defender and into the net. Molloy was unable to deliver on offense in the first half as the Lions were held to four shots in the opening frame while the home side collected 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of action. The Pioneers controlled the tempo of affairs in the second half, dictating pace of play throughout while holding an 11-1 advantage on shots in the final act. Late goals for LIU Post came in the final ten minutes on perfect passing that led to strikes from Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, United Kingdom) and Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark).

Seniors Kyle Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.), Orlando Castaneda (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Mosiah Whyte (Coram, N.Y.) combined for the five shots for the maroon and white, with only two attempts on net being parried aside by LIU Post goalie Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden). Meanwhile, sophomore net-minder Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) posted six saves and kept his side in the contest until the late goals were scored by the green and gold.

Molloy now anxiously waits the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Selection Show which will take place on Monday (Nov. 7) at 6:30 p.m. Continue to follow www.MolloyLions.com for the latest updates on the selection show, which will air on NCAA.com Monday evening.
