Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2016) - Despite rallying to send the game to a fourth set, the Molloy volleyball team was unable to overcome LIU Post in their final game of the fall season. The Pioneers got off to an early lead, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-16. In the third set, the two teams went point-for-point in a highly competitive contest until a five point run by Mollloy on kills from
Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas),
Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas),
and
Devon Hagerstrom (Bethpage, N.Y.) to end the set 25-21 in favor of the maroon and white. However, the Pioneers would counter in the fourth set with a run of their own, taking the set 25-21 and the game 3-1.
The Lions were led by Williams, who earned a double-double, totaling a match-high 15 kills while adding 13 digs, as well as
Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.), who posted 11 kills of her own.. Junior libero
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) collected 18 digs in the loss, while Smith added an additional 35 assists, ending her rookie campaign with a total of 915. For the Pioneers, Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio), Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.), and East Coast Conference Player of the Week Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) all totaled 13 kills. Kassie Akouri-Tejedor (North Miami Beach, Fla.) posted 47 assists, while Abby Eckhardt (Westminster, Colo) finished with 19 digs.
