EAST ROCKAWAY, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2016) - The Molloy College field hockey team could not overcome a strong first half from the opposition on Tuesday evening (Oct. 4) as Mercy College claimed a 3-1 victory at Bay Park in East Rockaway.

Molloy (1-7) was outshot in the contest by a 9-6 margin, but Mercy (3-7) owned a 6-0 shots advantage in the first half. Mavs forward Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif.) scored two goals in the opening act of the contest and sophomore Angela Robbins (Linwood, N.J.) beat graduate goalie Arianna Ovadia (East Meadow, N.Y.) on a rebound to give Mercy a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break. The maroon and white scored a second-half tally off a penalty corner, as senior Jillian Barbieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) fed junior Jessica Waszcak (Northport, N.Y.) at the top of the slot; Waszcak rifled an attempt past goalie Julia Amell (Greene, N.Y.) to collect the goal with nine minutes and chance remaining in the game, bu it was not enough.

Molloy will hit the road for a trip to the Carolinas this weekend, beginning with a 4 p.m. contest on Friday (Oct. 7) against the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte.
