Men's Soccer Continues Rolling, Claims 4-0 Victory Over UDC

Box Score BOYDS, Md. (Oct. 12, 2016) - Molloy's men's soccer team continued their stellar run, earning their seventh consecutive win on Wednesday (Oct. 12) when they shut out University of the District of Columbia 4-0. Molloy now improves to 8-2 on the season while maintaining a perfect 5-0 in East Coast Conference play. UDC falls to 3-9-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference with the loss.

A free kick in the 19th minute of play resulted in the game's first goal, scored by Steven Jimenez (East Elmhurst, N.Y.), his second in two games. UDC followed up with three consecutive shots from junior Liam Haycock (Stafford, England), but sophomore goalkeeper Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) was able to keep them in front of him.

Although the goal from the redshirt senior would wind up being all the Lions needed, the offense was not finished. Senior Mosiah Whyte (Coram, N.Y.) fed Adam Carnwath (Fleet, England) a pass that the junior would fire into the net from 25 yards out in the 49th minute.  Carnwath also picked up an assist, sending a cross to freshman Michael Jimenez (Queens Village, N.Y.), who was able to beat keeper Ever Guevera Alvarez (Woodbridge, Va.) for his first goal of his collegiate career. Molloy secured their 4-0 win on a through ball by Steven Jimenez to Whyte, who scored a breakaway goal past freshman goalie Joao Brusamolin (Minas Gerais, Brazil) in the 71st minute of play.

The Firebirds finished with a 6-5 corner kick advantage, but were ultimately outshot 20-11 by Molloy. ECC Offensive Player of the Week Kyle Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the team with four shots, while Carnwath, Steven Jimenez, and Mosiah Whyte each earned three points on the night. Bonilla made five saves in the win, bringing his save percentage to an incredible .900. The sophomore also earned his fifth shutout in the effort.

The Lions will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 15) as they take on the Purple Knights of Bridgeport University at 6:00 p.m. in Bridgeport, Conn.
