BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2016) - It took almost an entire first half against a testy yet winless Bloomfield Bears program, but the Molloy College women's soccer team was able to overcome a goalless first 43 minutes of play to knock off the opposition by a 3-0 score. Senior forward
Danielle Valente (South Setauket, N.Y.) scored all three goals for the Lions in the win Monday (Oct. 10), pushing the squad's overall record to 6-5-1 on the season. Bloomfield, meanwhile, fell to 0-11-1 on the season following the squad's first point on Saturday.
The hosts took the first shot of the game just past the five-minute mark as sophomore Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.Y.) attempted an effort that was saved by goalie
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.). From that point forward, Molloy carried on a 13-1 assault on the net and earned a distinct shots advantage; that said, Bloomfield freshman goalie Adeline Argabrite (Bloomfield, N.J.) was able to stop eight attempts while five went either wide or high of the cage. It appeared that the teams would go into the halftime break scoreless, but Valente got a gift in the 44th minute thanks to a misplay from the Bears cagekeeper. The senior slotted the ball into the empty net and opened the proverbial floodgates with a goal coming at 43:43 of game time. Just over 40 seconds later, Valente recieved a pass from senior
Jessica Malone (Long Beach, N.Y.) and chipped a shot from outside the 18-yard box over the head of Argabrite and into the back of the net. Molloy led by two at the half and the domination for the Lions would continue into the final act of play. With just over 66 minutes gone by in the contest, Molloy's No. 8 would get her hat trick. Valente coolly placed a ball over the head of Argabrite from inside the eighteen for her third goal of the contest to seal the win.
Molloy capitalized on a 24-3 shots advantage, with Valente factoring in for nine shots and seven targets in the victory. Junior forward
Sam Bernieri (Massapequa, N.Y.) added five shots and three targets while Malone peppered three shots in the game as well. Wilson made three saves in earning yet another clean sheet, helping her team run a streak of stinginess. The Lions have not allowed a goal in 368 minutes and 39 seconds, dating back to the 2-0 loss for the team versus Roberts Wesleyan on Sept. 30.
The maroon and white will have one of their more daunting tasks of the season coming up on Saturday (Oct. 15). The Lions will travel up I-95 to Bridgeport to play the nationally-ranked Purple Knights in an East Coast Conference tilt at 3 p.m.
