Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 4, 2015) - The Molloy College women's volleyball team was unable to pick up a victory on the first day of the Cal State-L.A. Invitational, dropping two matches Friday to Seattle Pacific and Lewis.
Seattle Pacific 3, Molloy 0In the opening match of the 2015 season, the Lions were dispatched by Seattle Pacific in straight sets (25-17, 25-15 and 25-15). Junior middle blocker 
Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) celebrated a homecoming with a seven kill performance, achieving a .583 hitting percentage over the triad of games. Junior setter 
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) dished out 18 assists, while sophomore defensive specialist 
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the team with six digs. The Lions were undone by 29 unforced errors, and Seattle Pacific capitalized with a .429 hitting percentage (43 kills on 77 total attempts). Freshman setter Symone Tran (Portland, Ore.) opened her collegiate career with 31 assists, 23 of which went for kills by sophomore outside hitter Hannah Lautenbach (Portland, Ore.) and freshman outside hitter Dani Johnson (Bellingham, Wash.).
Lewis 3, Molloy 1The Lions bounced back from their season-opening defeat well in the first set against the Flyers, winning the opening stanza by a 25-20 margin. As a team, Molloy capitalized on a .214 hitting percentage to capture the first set. Unfortunately, Lewis came back with a vengeance in the next three games, defeating the Lions 25-13, 25-12, and 25-20. The Flyers struck for a total of 52 kills on a .322 hitting clip, including a .500 percentage in the third set (19 kills on 32 attempts). 
Despite the loss, senior outside hitter 
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) shined for the maroon and white, notching 11 kills and six digs. Stefanovski and fellow setter 
Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) combined for 27 assists, while O'Neill led all players with 15 digs.
Head Coach 
Billy Corrao and the Molloy women's volleyball team return to action on Saturday (Sept. 5) as they wrap up play at the Cal State-L.A. Invitational. The Lions will first face Dixie State before taking on the host Eagles.
