Women's Volleyball Quieted in Tri-Match with Le Moyne, Adelphi

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2015) – The Molloy College volleyball team was unable to pick up a victory on Saturday, falling to Le Moyne in three sets and Adelphi in four games at a tri-match held on the campus of Adelphi University. The Lions will now head into conference season with a 2-10 overall record.

Le Moyne 3, Molloy 0
A balanced hitting attack was undone by a team total of 26 attacking errors, resulting in the maroon and white being swept by Le Moyne (27-25, 25-16, 25-18). The Dolphins collected a total team hitting percentage of .271 despite having one less kill (39-38) than Molloy did in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) had a team-high eight kills and contributed defensively with 16 digs to her account, as well. Freshman outside hitter Jeanne Reinis (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) had a seven-kill night while senior Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) collected six kills and 10 digs. Junior setters Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) and Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) combined for 32 assists in the loss, one assist more than the 31 from Le Moyne setter Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y.). Freshman middle hitter Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas) had a dominant performance with a match-best 13 kills and just one hitting error in 18 attempts (.667 hitting percentage) and freshman libero Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y.) had 21 digs for the Dolphins in the victory.
Adelphi 3, Molloy 1
The Lions jumped out to an early one-set lead thanks to taking the first game against the host Panthers by a 25-22 margin. In the opening stanza, Molloy hit a blistering .429 with 17 kills in 35 total attacks with two errors. Escobar's three service aces combined with a four-kill first game from freshman right-side hitter Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) and standout hitting performances from Palmer and junior middle blocker Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) to give the Lions an early break. However, Adelphi settled down and overpowered the maroon and white by taking the final three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-15. The Panthers ended the match with a .377 hitting percentage, peppering 41 kills in 88 total attacks over the last three sets. In the four-setter, Palmer collected a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs. Banks finished with eight kills while junior middle blocker Grace Cookson (Alpine, Calif.) had seven kills. Reinis and senior Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) finished with six kills apiece in the match. Meanwhile, Stefanovski (23 assists) and De Kruyf (16) continued to pace the offense for the maroon and white. Adelphi was led by a three-pronged hitting attack from Shelby Stoner (Anchorage, Alaska) (14 kills), McKenna Clawson (Ojai, Calif.) (13) and Mandy Stanislovaitis (West Chester, Ohio) (12) while setter Megan Manierski (Macomb, Mich.) dished out 37 assists for the home side in the victory.
Molloy will host their first East Coast Conference game of the 2015 fall campaign on Tuesday (Sept. 22) when Bridgeport comes to Quealy Gymnasium. First serve is at 6 p.m. and it is also "4.0 Night," celebrating the academic achievements of those student-athletes who earned a perfect grade-point average in the 2015 spring semester.
