Strong-Shooting First-Half Guides Men's Basketball Over Pace, 74-63

Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 20, 2015) - The Molloy College men's basketball team blistered the Goldstein Fitness Center with a 58% shooting clip from the field in the first half of a 74-63 victory over Pace University on Sunday (Dec. 20) in Pleasantville, N.Y.

The Lions (3-7) never trailed in the contest, leading the Setters (5-6) 46-30 after one half of play. Molloy ended the game shooting 48% (28-58) from the field and 36% (8-22) from beyond the three-point arc, while also hitting 71% (10-of-14) of its free throws. Freshman guard Curtis Jenkins (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had a breakout game in leading all scorers with 18 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the field with five rebounds and three assists. Jenkins was one of four players for the maroon and white to score double-digit points, and his 18 points were a career high for the Farmingdale native. Junior guard Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while nearly collecting a triple-double with seven assists. Meanwhile, senior guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) poured in 10 points to crawl ever closer to the 1,000-point plateau for his career (currently sitting at 981 points for his career). The Lions were also buoyed by a 13-point performance from junior Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and an 80% shooting effort with nine total points from senior Kevin Bowles (Wantagh, N.Y.)

Pace was led by sophomore guard Bryan Rivers (West Windsor, N.J.) who scored 17 points for the Setters in the losing effort. Freshman forward Ryan Peterson (Westerfield, Conn.) added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Setters shot 38% (23-60) from the field in the contest while hitting just 59% (10-17) of its free throws at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Molloy will wrap up its road trip next Wednesday (Dec. 30) with its final non-conference game against NE-10 foe Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. at 4 p.m.
